Olney-Bethesda Soccer League

Serving Youth Development Soccer 
in Montgomery County
The Olney-Bethesda Soccer League is a developmental and transitional league for U8 through U12 Players. Many players and teams find the progression from recreational programs to NCSL and WAGS a significant challenge. The OBSL offers players and teams the opportunity to play at a competitive level prior to joining these leagues. The emphasis is not on results but on player skill & development.
Features of OBSL
  • The league is sanctioned by the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA).
  • U9 to U12 teams are carded as travel players.  U8 teams are carded as recreational.
  • League games are primarily scheduled for Saturdays.  No games played Memorial Day or Columbus Day weekends.
  • The league uses certified USSF referees.
  • In addition to Olney and Bethesda, the following MSYSA member clubs have played in the league as well as independent teams:
    • Alliance Soccer Club
    • Laurel Soccer Club
    • Pachuca FC USA
    • Potomac Soccer Association
    • Takoma Park Soccer Club
    • Thunder Soccer Club.

Minimum Roster size is ten (10) and maximum roster is fourteen (14) for CMSSL/OBSL play.
The majority of the players must be on age.
It is recommended to have a roster of at least ten (10) players for the U8 program.
It is recommended to have a roster of at least twelve (12) players for the U9 program.
Girls may play on boys teams.

The league is highly competitive. OBSL offers young players the opportunity to develop their skills at the most competitive level available prior to joining NCSL or WAGS.

OBSL Programs
The league is jointly operated by Olney Soccer and Bethesda Soccer Club.  OBSL offers three programs:
 
  • U8 4v4 League - teams play two concurrent 4v4 games on small grids
  • U9 5v5 League - teams play two concurrent 5v5 games on small grids, which include goalkeepers
  • U9 to U12 Travel League - teams compete in a joint effort with the Central Maryland Short-Sided League (CMSSL)
    • CMSSL includes teams from Howard, Prince Georges, Baltimore, Frederick, Charles & Anne Arundel counties
    • U9 & U10 play 7v7
    • U11 & U12 play 9v9
